History of the Silverspoon Tournament
Ladies ringette in Gloucester Township was started by the Blackburn ladies ringette team in 1975-76. In the early years it was also played in the Orleans, Casselman and Russell areas.
The Blackburn ladies decided to hold the first ever Silverspoon Tournament in 1978 to reciprocate the invitations they had recieved from the Woolwich and Ajax ladies ringette teams. At the time, the Ajax ladies had the Silver Ring tournament and Woolwich had the Silver Cup tournament.
The Silverspoon name and trophy were chosen because they wanted a trophy that represented their township. At the time there were sterling silver spoons available bearing the crest of the municipality. This tradition has been proudly kept over the years (when possible!). The consolation prize was a silver coffee spoon with the letter G engraved on it.
Leitrim Arena (Fred Barrett Arena) was booked for the first ever tournament and we still play there to this date!

- Please register your team through this link: GAARA Ramp Registration
- Log in to your Ramp Registrations account
- Select the "Tournament Registration" button
- Select the Home club, Division, and Team contact that pertains to you from the drop downs
- Click "Continue"
- Make sure your roster looks correct
- Click "Continue"
- Review the information and "Submit Registration"
Registration will close on December 15, 2024. Your registration is not complete until you have sent in your payment.
Registration for the tournament is on a first-come, first-served basis and is contingent upon BOTH registration AND payment.
Please send your Team Registration Forms (or other provincial equivalent) to silverspoon@gaara.ca by December 20, 2024.
Teams will be advised of acceptance by early January 2025. There will be no refund for teams who withdraw after they have been accepted.
Payment
In order to complete your registration, please send your payment by:
- E-transfer to treasurer@gaara.ca (please include your team’s name and division in the e-transfer notes) OR
- Cheque made payable to “GAARA Silverspoon” and mail to 9 Solara Private, Rockland Ontario K4K OK9
Rules
- Ringette Canada Official Rules and Ringette Ontario Sanctioned Tournament Rules will be enforced.
- Complete rules will be provided with the tournament package.
- Shot Clock will be used in all games for all divisions.
- Silverspoon is a female-only tournament at this time.
- Air or mechanically assisted horns are not permitted at any of the facilities.
- Every effort will be made to play complete games. However, due to ice availability, 3-Game Divisions will run on Zamboni time on Friday.
- All teams must be ready to play as early as 4:00pm on Friday, February 21, 2025. We will try and schedule local teams for these earlier games.
