Forming a New Team
If you want to form a new team in GAARA for an upcoming season, you must obtain Board approval before registering the team. Please send an email to president@gaara.ca, vp@gaara.ca, and registrar@gaara.ca that includes the following information:
Team name
How many confirmed players you currently have (you must have 13 to form a team)
Whether you have a goalie
If any of your players have played in GAARA before and, if so, what team they played for and what was the most recent season they played during
If any players are new to GAARA, or have not played in the previous three seasons, they must submit a player evaluation (once team is accepted), which can be found on our Forms and Documents page
Whether you are applying for your own contract to provide ice times for your home games, or if you wish to join the GAARA ice pool, see below for more information
Home Ice
During the regular season, each team plays 11 home games. In order to provide the ice time needed for these games, teams can either enter their own contract with the City or use the GAARA ice pool.
Teams that provide their own ice must provide a minimum of 13 hours to GAARA for scheduling. The location, day and time must be approved in advance by the Board before you commit to the contract with the City. See Operational Procedures - Administration, Section 1.9.2 for further details.
Teams that join the GAARA ice pool have their ice provided through GAARA’s contract with the City of Ottawa. Home game times and locations will vary throughout the year. Payment to GAARA to cover the cost of this ice is part of the team registration process. Note: While new teams can apply to be part of the GAARA ice pool, acceptance is not guaranteed.
